Card Security

Many credit card crimes start with a phishing scam. Phishing is a scam in which fraudsters contact potential victims via text message or email and attempt to obtain their personal data and credit card information. If you aren’t careful in such instances, you lose a lot of money. Most credit card fraud can be prevented if cardholders take their obligation to exercise due care seriously.

Email

Check the sender
If you aren’t sure whether the message you have received is a phishing email, check the sender’s email address. Do you know this person?
Is the email address trustworthy?
Ask the official sender, such as the bank or delivery service for further information.

Look for errors
Check whether an unexpected email is genuine. Look out for incorrect logos, misspellings or incorrect company names.
It is worth taking a detailed look.

Weblinks

Check links
Do not open any links or attachments that you receive from a person you do not know, especially if you are not expecting a message from them. It could be a link to a fake website or an attachment which contains malware.

We also advise you to always type in links to websites yourself and check whether it is the official URL for the company. Excessively long links should make you suspicious. Trustworthy websites start with "https://".
