Information about the conflict in Ukraine

We wish to inform you about current topics regarding the conflict in Ukraine and the sanctions on Russia.

Important information on the use of cards:

For the use of credit cards (American Express, Visa and Mastercard), Swisscard is complying with the regulations imposed by the international sanctions. At present, the use of credit cards is prohibited/blocked in the territories of the «People’s Republic of Donetsk» and the «People’s Republic of Lugansk» as well as in Crimea and Russia. In Belarus, the use of American Express Cards is prohibited/blocked and the use of other cards is restricted.

Due to the international sanctions (including the exclusion of certain Russian financial institutions from the Swift payments system), the use of payment cards at home and abroad may lead to difficulties, and in certain cases to card transactions being declined.

Important information for merchants on the acceptance of American Express Cards:

American Express Cards issued in Russia or Belarus can no longer be used as a means of payment outside Russia or Belarus; attempted transactions of this kind will be declined.

Important information on insurance benefits:

As regards the war in Ukraine, we have recently been receiving a considerable number of enquiries about insurance benefits. In this respect, please take note of the following:

  • Before embarking on a journey: If a journey is cancelled or a flight route is changed, as the contractual partner, the leading provider is responsible – the tour operator or the airline, for example. We recommend you contact the leading provider first (airline, hotel, car rental). In many cases, services that have already been booked, such as flights or hotel stays, can be cancelled or rebooked at no cost. If you made your booking through a travel agency, please contact them.
     
  • During a journey: The health and personal safety of our customers is our top priority. In this exceptional situation, we shall try to provide our travelling customers with the best possible support. We kindly ask affected customers to contact their insurance provider directly.
    • In the case of enquiries of a financial nature, please note that in the scope of the General Terms and Conditions of Insurance, claims for damage due to wartime events are explicitly excluded. This means that the insurance provider is unable to cover any costs in such cases.
  • If you fail to receive any support from your tour operator or the website at which you made your booking, or if you have any other questions about the subject of insurance, please contact your insurance provider.
