Swisscard Executive Board
Swisscard management, our Executive Board, consists of eight experienced leaders. They are responsible
for the operational business in accordance with their specified tasks and competencies.
Chief Executive Officer
Marcel Bührer has been the Swisscard Chief Executive Officer since September 2005. He worked at Credit Suisse AG in a variety of roles from 1999, prior to joining Swisscard. In his most recent position, Marcel Bührer headed the Payments Department in the Operations division, with approximately 850 employees. His work in this capacity was closely related to the credit card business. Before moving to the financial sector, he successfully managed an international textiles company.
Marcel Bührer studied Economic Sciences (lic. oec. HSG).
Head of Finance & Corporate Development
Daniel Bürchler has been heading Swisscard’s Finance department since March 2004. Since March 2006, he has also headed the Corporate Development department, where he is responsible for innovation and change management. Furthermore, Daniel Bürchler is the President of Swisscard’s Staff Pension Fund. Before joining Swisscard, he was Associate Principal at McKinsey & Company in the Corporate Finance and Strategy Practice divisions.
Daniel Bürchler studied and completed a doctorate at ETH Zurich (dipl. Bau-Ingenieur ETH/SIA; Dr. sc. techn. ETH) and has completed continuous training on management courses.
Head of Consumer Business
Dominic Steptoe has been responsible for Swisscard’s Consumer Business since 2013. Before his current position, he worked for American Express for 23 years, and held various roles in this context, all over the world. As a result, Dominic Steptoe has managed the worldwide product strategy and regional marketing teams on several continents. He was also responsible for promoting the continuous development of American Express’ consumer product range for network partners all over the world.
Dominic Steptoe studied Economic Sciences at the University of London and has a degree in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing in Great Britain.
Head of Business-to-Business
Alex Friedli has been responsible for Business to Business and therefore for business clients and merchants since February 2013. Prior to this, he managed the company-wide transition program for the Swisscard IT processing platform. Alex Friedli has worked for Swisscard since it was established in 1998 and has held a wide variety of managerial positions since then. Prior to joining Swisscard, Alex Friedli worked in product management for card products at Credit Suisse.
Alex Friedli studied Economic Sciences specializing in organization (lic. oec. HSG).
Head of Human Resources
Barbara Allemann has headed the Human Resources department since March 2015. Prior to joining Swisscard, Barbara Allemann worked at Credit Suisse, most recently as Head HR Business Partner in the Corporate & Institutional Clients division. In the Private Banking & Wealth Management division she was responsible for the HR management strategy and managed HR processes. Barbara Allemann worked in different divisions at Credit Suisse for almost 20 years in total.
Barbara Allemann studied Business Economics at the Kaderschule Zürich and has a certificate in coaching.
Head of Risk
Özlem Civelek took over management of the Risk division in May 2015. As Chief Risk Officer, Özlem Civelek develops company-wide risk management and defines strategies with which Swisscard can achieve a perfect risk-return profile in its business activity.
Prior to assuming her current position, Özlem Civelek successfully managed the Process Engineering division at Swisscard where she drove enterprise risk management, among other things. She has been working for Swisscard in various positions since 2004.
Özlem Civelek has a Master’s in Business and Politics from the University of Stuttgart and further qualifications from the Professional Risk Managers’ Association.
Head of Operations
Michael Marek has been heading the Operations division since October 2014. Prior to joining Swisscard, he worked as Chief Operations Officer at Cembra and GE Money Bank, where he was responsible for the Underwriting, Customer Service and Collections departments. Prior to this, he worked for GE Capital for 10 years in various financial services positions in Austria, the USA and Germany.
Michael Marek studied Business Economics at Vienna University of Economics and Business, in the USA and in Italy.
Head of IT
Marco Bazzani has been heading IT at Executive Board level since October 2017.
Marco Bazzani has been working successfully in finance for more than 30 years, with more than 20 of them at Credit Suisse. During this time, he has held a variety of global managerial positions in both the front and back office. In doing so, he has managed various major strategic projects and initiatives.
Marco Bazzani has completed a banking apprenticeship and further training to be a business economist. He has also completed several internal and external leadership and project management training courses.
