Chief Executive Officer
Marcel Bührer (1960) took over the management of Swisscard AECS GmbH as Chief Executive Officer in September 2005. From 1999, prior to joining Swisscard AECS GmbH, he worked at Credit Suisse AG in a variety of roles. In his most recent position, Marcel Bührer managed the Payments Department in the Operations division, with approximately 850 employees. His work in this capacity was closely related to the bank card business. Before moving to the financial sector, he successfully managed an international textiles company.
Marcel Bührer holds a degree in economics (lic. oec. HSG).
Barbara Allemann is assuming overall responsibility for the Human Resources department of credit card issuer Swisscard at the beginning of March 2015. Barbara Allemann most recently served as Head HR Business Partner at Credit Suisse in the Corporate & Institutional Clients department. Within the Private Banking & Wealth Management division, she was responsible for the strategic alignment of human resources management and controlled related processes. Ms Allemann has worked in a variety of departments at Credit Suisse for almost 20 years. Barbara Allemann studied Business Administration at Kaderschule Zürich and is a certified coach. She lives with her partner on the upper shores of Lake Zurich.
Finance and Corporate Development
Daniel Bürchler (1968) has managed the Finance department at Swisscard AECS GmbH since March 2004. Since March 2006, he has also headed the Corporate Development division, where he is responsible for innovation and change management at Swisscard AECS GmbH. He is President of Swisscard’s Staff Pension Fund and Chairman of the Board of Directors for special purpose vehicles for the issue of listed asset backed securities to refinance the card business. Before joining Swisscard AECS GmbH, he was Associate Principal at McKinsey & Company Inc. in the Corporate Finance and Strategy Practice.
Daniel Bürchler studied at the ETH Zurich and at the Institute for Management (IMAKA) in Zurich. He has degrees in building engineering from the ETH/SIA and industrial engineering from the STV, as well as holding a doctorate in technical sciences (Dr. sc. techn./ETH).
Business to Business
Alex Friedli (1968) has been responsible for Business to Business and therefore for corporate clients and merchants since February 2013. Prior to this, he managed the company-wide transition program for the Swisscard AECS GmbH IT processing platform. From July 2005 to February 2009, he was the Head of Customer Service. Alex Friedli has worked for Swisscard AECS GmbH since it was established in 1998 and has held a wide variety of roles in process and project management, as well as customer service. Prior to joining Swisscard, Alex Friedli worked in product management for card products at Credit Suisse AG.
Alex Friedli holds a university degree in business economics from the University of St. Gallen (lic. oec. HSG), specializing in organization.
Dominic Steptoe (1968) is responsible for the Consumer Business for Swisscard.
Prior to his current role Dominic spent twenty three years with American Express holding a variety of roles around the world, leading global product strategy and regional marketing teams across Europe, Middle East and Africa, the Americas and Asia, having been based in London, New York, Hong Kong and Singapore.
During his tenure with American Express, Dominic was responsible for driving the ongoing development of the American Express consumer product line for network partners around the world as well as leading the development of global product offerings and marketing analytics capabilities.
Dominic holds a BA in Economics from the University of London and Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
Head of Risk
With effect from 1 May 2015, Özlem Civelek will be taking up the post of Chief Risk Officer on the Executive Board of credit card company Swisscard. Ms Civelek has held a variety of different positions within Swisscard since 2004. For the last four years she has successfully managed the Process Engineering department, where she promoted the Enterprise Risk Management system, to name but one example. Ms Civelek holds a Master’s degree in Economics and Politics from the University of Stuttgart and has undergone further training at the Professional Risk Managers’ International Association. Ms Civelek is married, has two children and lives with her family in the Zurich Unterland region. She pursues a diverse range of cultural and sporting interests in her spare time.
Head of Operations
Michael Marek took over as Head of Operations on 1 October 2014. He spent the past six years working as Chief Operations Officer at Cembra/GE Money Bank, where he was responsible for underwriting, customer services and collections. Prior to this, he worked for ten years at GE Capital in various financial services positions in Austria, the US and Germany.
Michael Marek studied business administration at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, in the US and Italy. He lives in Zurich with his wife and eight-year-old daughter.
